Week 8

I think literature reviews are very interesting and informative, it takes you a step further in understanding the information you have obtained for your research projects. I think that writing the literature review was fairly simple, but it just having to look through my over again and over again that becomes tedious. With my research I think that I have covered all basis for extra question. It is a very important topic though because binge eating disorder effects a lot of people and cannot achieve the lifestyle that everyone else does due to health issues from being obese. I think my research could make a pretty go impact on a larger audience because it takes a concept that most people already know, but just adding cognitive behavioral therapy to diet and exercise will have great results. I think this because a lot of people can not get into the behavior of exercise and healthy eating that is why with cognitive behavioral therapy it helps you over come such an obstacle.

Week 7

  • Please respond to the following questions in your post:
  • What new sources did you include in your annotated bibliography?
  • What gaps did they fill in your research?
  • What are three major findings of your research (brief bullet points are appropriate for this post)?
  • What aspects of your research question remain unanswered or require further research?

In my annotated bibliography I added two new sources by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (Essentials of Personal Training & Training Specified for Populations with Chronic Disease). I added these two books because it shows with in my research ways to battle the effects of post binge eating. The effects of post binge eating could be weight gain or obesity and even just poor health. These two books are perfect guides to better your body composition and to live a more healthy lifestyle. The gaps did get filled because it showed ways to treat post binge eating effects and improve self esteem.

Three major findings in my research

- Not all individuals with Binge Eating disorder are obese

-Individuals who over value or want perfectionism when it comes to body image have a higher chance in developing binge eating disorder

- That one of the most used and best ways to treat Binge Eating Disorder is the use of psychotherapy and the preferred method is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

I think within my research I have fully covered Binge Eating Disorder. I have covered the onset to the treatment and the post effects of the disorder.

week 6

I think so far with the research tools that I have developed and became more aware of so far in this class that I am able to conduct more detailed research. My detailed research now includes a variety of research sources from peer reviewed journal articles to empirical ones, from a variety of suitable online sources, and even professional interviews with individuals with background and experience in that specific topic.

When it comes to academic integrity and plagiarism I believe I have the concepts of the two down pretty well. In my opinion though I think that with the online community/education integrity and plagiarism is more of a problem. I say this because you can be the individual enrolled in the class and while doing homework or a quiz you can have someone else do the work for you and it would become unnoticed. I know in the Army they speak highly of integrity and to us it means pretty much doing the right thing when no one else is looking( that is just one thing that is always said with integrity). This could very well go for the online educational community do your own work and put forth all of your own effort instead of someone else.

week 5

So far I have learned a lot about my research topic and how it affects a variety of people. Binge eating disorder effects a variety of individuals from obese to non-obese individuals. It also effects people who have a overvaluation of the eating disorder. This means that they put high value into having a particular body image and therefore puts a major amount of stress on that person. In the two empirical articles I chose they looked at both groups and came up with some pretty significant evidence of the development of binge eating disorder. Both articles suggest that some of the signs and symptoms are that of having an overvaluation of body image, depression, stress, bad coping skills, or possibly just pure habitual in nature. From these observations and studies that were both conducted it shows that the eating disorder can very well be in a variety of individuals, but can also be treated with proper guidance, support, and therapy.

week 4

One of the greatest things I learned about my topic this week is that it is not only obese that do have binge eating disorder. There was even a study done that had two groups obese and non-obese individuals. In the study it showed there really was not much of a difference in symptoms or treatment. They all responded pretty much the same to treatment and from being individuals themselves is probably why there were little differences. I learned to this week that one of the main treatments is CBT or cognitive behavioral therapy.

When trying to research for articles it was not too hard of a task. I usually just end up typing in the key words box and put "binge eating disorder". From doing this though it gives me a variety of information that I am looking for. I then added a little bit more detail in my search and added CBT training to it. I did not have to many run ins with problems for researching anything. I did find it useful though since I work at an army medical clinic to talk to one of our LCSWs about the disorder.

Week 3

The knowledge I gained from the book I looked at this week was pretty interesting because it was from a fitness and nutritional perspective on the psychological behaviors of binge eating. It presents very good information on the types of behaviors that occur with binge eating and how it causes individuals to become obese. It also provides great physical and nutritional information pertaining to these types of individuals. It also it nice work because it talks about how to assess the individuals based upon their individual needs and outcomes when it comes to their health. I am familiar with the organization which is American Council on Exercise from working in a gym for 3 years and some of the other trainers having their personal trainer certificate.I really did not notice any new search strategies, but what I have never thought of using were the ebooks that the library provided. Whenever I conduct research papers I tend to always use scholarly journals because I thought the books had to be downloaded or rented. I hope to find more information on binge eating disorder and the variety of treatments out there to battle the disorder as well as more of awareness of the disorder itself.

Week 2

The two research sources I stumbled upon this week were very fascinating and had really solid information within them. Especially the Womenshealth.gov site because of how simple the layout of the page is. I was able to just scroll through the site and all the information I need on binge eating disorder in women was right there. I thought the information it provided such as the causes were very well understood and gave a great explanation on them(depression, dieting, coping skills, biology).

I think that with this weeks assignment it gave me a very good understanding on what information was valid and useful from the ones that were not. It allowed me to decided on websites that would have correct and reliable information from the ones that were not. I know with the CRAAP test it allows you to critically think and pick apart the information as well as the source it is from. It is a great tool to use for researching the research articles or websites you are using within a paper.
